In a comment to my previous blog, Sarat Pediredla of Hedgehog Lab introduced himself and a product called Fixx and said that it “could potentially support Ingres”. Since that comment I’ve exchanged communication with Sarat and now have Fixx 1.3 working with Ingres 9.2.0.
The set-up wasn’t as straight forward as hoped because of the lack of support for Ingres in the Apache DdlUtils. Luckily they’re only used during set-up and those steps can be performed manually. Not ideal but it’s a start. If anyone would like to take a look at DdlUtils and add Ingres support that would be great otherwise I’ll add it to the todo list.
I’ve documented the set-up changes http://community.ingres.com/wiki/Fixx_setup_changes and included the schema creation scripts and data script that creates some roles and the first user.
Download a copy from http://hedgehoglab.com/products/fixx/download/ it’s free for a single user, unpack it and apply the changes to get it running on Ingres. It’s still an early version and lacks some enterprise features but Sarat assures me that they are on the road map.
I’d like to welcome Hedgehog Lab to the Ingres community and hope that they like what they see.
Incidentally, I’m running Fixx on a Icebreaker 9.2.0 appliance just to kick its tires too.
