A vacancy has opened up on the UK Ingres Users Association committee.

If you would like to be involved with the most energetic and
successful Ingres user-group in the world, we want to hear from you.

We have a number of projects under way, including our hugely successful
annual conference that you all know about, plus we are organizing open
source bootcamps up and down the UK. We are also embarking in a refresh
of our web infrastructure to improve our ability to communicate with
members and to provide value.

If you have any ideas for what you’d like to see done better, different
or more, and you are motived to help it happen, please let us know by
emailing info[at]ukiua[dot]org[dot]uk.

We would especially like to hear from anyone who is new to the Ingres
family of products.

Registration for the UK IUA “Doing More with Even Less” 2009 Conference
in London on Tuesday, June 9 is now open.

Among the twenty or so sessions on offer in the afternoon Christine
Normile will run a breakout session to discuss the roadmap for Ingres
9.3, 9.4 and 9.5, and will include a brainstorming session with the
audience. Suggestions will be entered live into Service Desk so any
suggestions will get immediate management visibility and will have a
real chance of being implemented. These kinds of sessions always set
off storms of new ideas because people can collaborate, argue, and
explain in a way that is impossible otherwise.

The plenary session this year features a record number of keynote
speakers, including Senior Product Manager Christine Normile giving a
briefing on new features in Ingres; SVP of Worldwide Engineering Bill
Maimone with what he promises will be an “eye-popping”(!) demonstration
of forthcoming features; Red Hat’s Regional Director for the UK Phil
Andrews; Alfresco Chief Marketing Officer Dr. Ian Howells, and Ingres
President and CEO Roger Burkhardt speaking on the New Economics of IT.

Outlines or abstracts for presentations on Ingres, OpenROAD, open source, or any other Ingres-related topics are welcome. The theme for this year’s event is Doing More With Even Less so any papers relating to getting yet more out of the Ingres products will be particularly welcome.

The UK IUA Committee invites anyone working with Ingres or OpenROAD, or related technologies to submit ideas for papers to be presented at this year’s annual conference. Over 90 attendees came to see a record number of high quality presentations at last year’s event, and with your assistance and contribution, we aim to make this year’s IUA Conference an even greater success.

Outlines and abstracts can be submitted in any reasonable format (e.g. Word, plain text, Powerpoint, PDF, etc.), but note that final presentations should be in the form of PowerPoint or Open Office Impress. DEADLINE: DON’T FORGET… Submissions must be received no later than Monday 27th April 2009 for evaluation by the conference paper selection committee. Notification of whether your paper has been selected or rejected will be sent by Friday 8th May 2009. Please feel free to submit papers on any Ingres and OpenROAD interest areas. Topics we are particularly interested in hearing from this year:

The deadline for the call for papers is Monday 27th April 2009. Papers submitted by this date will receive favourable attention from the committee. Any papers submitted after this date may not be included in the conference series. Acceptance notification will be sent on Friday 8th May 2009.

The theme for this year’s event is “Doing More With Even Less” so any papers relating to getting the most out of the Ingres Products would be very welcome.

a result of the resignation of a member who has been unable to
participate owing to his workload.

Presentations should be approximately 45 minutes long and should be directly relevant to users of the Ingres family of products. Anyone considering
doing a presentation is invited to submit a very brief outline or proposal to me at:

Topics of particular interest might include: experiences with OpenROAD 2006; applications based on an open source stack including Ingres; open source database products and regulatory compliance, or any account of how a new Ingres feature made a difference to your business. Any other suggestions for topics are very welcome.

In addition to submissions from presenters, we would be very interested to hear suggestions from possible attendees for topics they would like to see
