OSBootcamp is mini-open source conference put in place by Andrew Ross in Canada, see http://osbootcamp.org, to try to teach students about open source and how to program in C (since it’s no longer fashionable). Reproduced below is an email from Marty Bowes regarding the first UK OSBootcamp to be held at Oxford University. Should you be interested in attending or want to find out more, drop me an email (grant@planetingres.org) or respond to Marty’s post in comp.databases.ingres.

Hi Everyone,

I’m helping to organise the first OSBootcamp at Oxford University.
These will of course be closely modelled on the OSBootcamps that Andrew
Ross has been staging in Canada and the US.

Much like Andrew, we are hoping to attract interest from the student
community and give them some interesting sessions on topics related to
Opensource and just general bread and butter skills in computing. At the
same time we have no objection to anybody else turning up. There will be
snacks, there will be a door prize!

Just so we can cater for the event all we ask is that you register your
interest at: http://www.osbootcamp.org/

We’d also love to hear from anybody regarding speaking at future events
and to help us sponsor the events.

The agenda for the Oxford Bootcamp is as follows:

Date: 3rd November.

Location. Said Business School, Seminar Room A.

17:30-17:40 - Welcome & OSBOOTCAMP introduction - Andrew Ross (video)
17:45-18:30 - Tearing files apart. - Martin Bowes
18:35-19:20 - vi - What they didn.t tell you in the manuals. - Roy Hann
19:20-19:40 - Food & Drinks
19:40-20:25 - Opensource Licencing - Rowan Wilson
20:25-20:30 - Prizes and wrap up - Mike Flower

Hope to see lots of smiling faces there!

Martin Bowes
